Spring Break Projects Part 1

Oh, how I love spring break. The weather here is perfect and there is no better time to have all the doors open, the kids coming and going and to have the smell of fresh sawdust pouring from the garage

So I started with some 1'x4'x1" pine boards. I cut them to fit in my Parlor closet and then sanded all the edges. I also took 8 feet of pine chair railing and cut them into 10" sections. I dry brushed the boards and did 2 solid coats of paint on the railing. I happen to love Behr's Lamp Black satin paint.

After allowing those to dry for 24 hours, I then took a rag towel and dipped it in a 1/2-1/2 mix of the two following stains and rubbed the stain on then wiped it off.

After another drying period, I installed them into my Parlor closet. First, I pre-drilled the railing, because it's miserable to have the wood split on you just as you're coming to the end of a project!

Perfection. You know those times when you can see something in you mind's eye, but then when you do it, it really didn't turn out as well as you hoped. Well this was NOT one of those times. It couldn't have turned out better!
